Meet the partners
The ACCSESS consortium consists of 18 partners from eight different countries.
The consortium represents technology and R&I excellence along the full CCUS chains, as well as the necessary complementary expertise (financing, business models, legal and environmental aspects, public perceptions and acceptance).
Consortium members representing energy-intensive industries come from four industrial sectors with the potential to drastically reduce CO2 emissions, provided the financial, legal and regulatory conditions are in place: pulp and paper, cement, waste-to-energy, and biorefineries.

ACCSESS management encompasses strategic management, day-to-day management and innovation management. Strategic management consists in formulating, selecting, prioritizing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable the project to succeed. Day-to-day management consists in the work package and sub-project management, and is based on the processes and procedures developed by the Coordinator and the Project Management Team (PMT). Innovation management consists in developing and monitoring an efficient workflow for innovations to be matured along the project, to reach TRL7 (WP3 and WP6).
The structure and organization of the ACCSESS governance is a flexible, democratic approach where the top decisions are made by an Executive Board with seat and vote for all consortium members.
The core of the day-to day management is executed by the Coordinator and the Project Management Team. This allows work packages to execute their plans in an efficient manner.
All project partners are full and equal members of the Executive Board (EB), ensuring transparency and equal influence over the project decisions and overall strategy.
The EB makes all critical decisions and be instrumental in resolving conflicts and will be advised by the Intellectual Properties Rights committee on IPR matters. The EB will set up ad-hoc task forces as required to address specific topics that can arise on strategic issues, and that are more efficiently managed by a small, dedicated group. Such task forces will report back to the EB with recommendations for decisions or guidance for the coordinator.
The Intellectual Property Committee (IPC) focus on the innovation and results exploitation potential and the associated IP. Led by Saipem and reporting to the EB, the IPC is formed of representatives of ACCESS project members with specific interest and experience in IP development and protection.
External experts, or legal expertise from the partners will be invited to the IPC meetings as required for the assessment of innovation status. The IPC will be of strategic importance to the ACCSESS consortium for leveraging the innovation during the project, but also favouring these innovations reaching a further TRL8 and 9 through identifying additional markets and uptake for the technologies in ACCSESS.
SINTEF Energy Research is the ACCSESS Project Coordinator, operating in the interface between strategic and day-to-day management, and is formally responsible for the execution of ACCSESS and is the sole interface with the Innovations and Network Executive Agency (INEA). The Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, including managing risks and deviations in an efficient manner and the EB.
Led by Graeme Sweeney, chair of the Zero Emissions Platform, the International Liaisons Council is composed of up to 6 external, international members with high competence and strategic interest in CCUS deployment. The Coordinator will use the international network of the ACCSESS consortium members to engage members from other Mission Innovation counties such as China and Australia to form a trans-continental group of experts recognized for their expertise in CCUS.
The ILC is set up to ensure the integration of ACCSESS in an international context, create new markets for the ACCSESS innovations, and for ACCSESS to both seek and give strategic advice globally. The ILC will be invited to support in the day-to-day operations.
The Project management Team (PMT) consists of the Coordinator, the Project Manager, and the sub-project leaders. Chaired by the Coordinator, the PMT meets regularly to coordinate the daily project operations between sub-projects.
